It was said that Boeing 747 was once "Queen in the air". But since airliners phased out their B747 fleets, there, in my view, is another "Queen in the air". That's Boeing 787.

Why? Because it's one of the most popular "target" among aviation-crazy photographers, including me, of course. In places like Lane of planes or Air Froce One cafe/restaurant, there are always many of us gathering to take photos of B787. Some people just focus on these beautiful planes. After B787 taking off or landing there people disappear......

B787's looking is very unique, especially from the front, like a big bird flying. On a sunny day I stood in the lane of planes to take photos, I heard a man saying "Wow...It's beautiful. It's Boeing 787." Well, good paintings might contribute to this positive impression. ANA's painting is blue stripes on white background while JAL's is red on white.

波音787的外觀相當獨特,特別是從正前方看過去,就像一隻大鳥在飛翔的模樣。某個晴天的日子,我在飛機巷拍照時,聽到旁邊有人說"哇...漂亮,是波音787"。筆者認為好的塗裝也會讓人有正面的印象。全日空ANA就是白色底配上藍色的線條圖案,而日航JAL則是白底配紅色線條與圖案。

Because of their strategic alliance, ANA share codes with EVA Air and JAL share codes with China Airline to operate Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) to Haneda Airport (HND), the most popular route between Taiwan and Japan. This is why we can see flights of ANA and JAL everyday in TSA.

There are also Boeing 767s in both ANA and JAL's fleets which have almost the same passenger capacity as Boeing 787. So we can see B767 in TSA everyday.

基於策略聯盟(星空聯盟vs寰宇一家),在"東京羽田-台北松山"這條台日之間最有人氣的航線上,全日空跟日航,分別與台灣的長榮航空、中華航空以"共掛航班"的方式營運。所以每天都可以在松山機場看到全日空與日航的班機。

另外,全日空和日航也都有波音767機隊,767和787的載客量差不多。所以在波音787之外,波音767也是每天會光臨松山機場的常客。

In recent years, colourful painting on the passenger planes are becoming popular for many reasons. Some airlines pay "big money" to buy copyrights to paint popular catoon characters on planes' bodies. For example, some of EVA Air's Airbus A330/321, Boeing 777, and ATR-72 are painted with SANRIO series characters like Hello Kitty and Bad Badtz-maru.

近年來,五顏六色的客機機身彩繪越來越流行。有的航空公司不惜砸重金購買版權,在機身畫上人氣卡通人物角色。例如長榮航空部份A330/A321/B777和ATR72的機身,分別彩繪了Hello Kitty和酷企鵝造型的圖案。

Since the air route between TSA and HND is so popular for both Taiwanese and Japanese passengers, and Boeing 787s are not available in Taiwan's civil aviation yet, both EVA Air and China Airline operate this route with their Airbus A330 planes which can carry more passengers.

By the way, the copyright price of SANRIO's characters is so expensive that even EVA Air can't afford to paint all its planes with Hello Kitty or Bad Badtz-maru. Since the forth quater of 2017, EVA's A330s flying between TSA and HND are newer but without SANRIO painting. But one (actually the only one) ATR-72 with Bad Badtz-maru painting can still be seen in TSA.

"松山-羽田"航線在台日雙方都是相當有人氣的航線,而波音787尚未進入台灣民航業界,長榮與華航目前都以載客量較B787稍多的A330來營運這條航線。另外,由於三麗鷗家族卡通圖案的版權費相當昂貴,即使是長榮航空也無法給每一架飛機塗上凱蒂貓或酷企鵝的彩繪。而從2017年第4季開始,飛航"松山-羽田"航線,逐漸由較新但沒有三麗鷗系列圖案的A330來營運。不過目前唯一一架塗有酷企鵝圖案的立榮航空ATR-72,仍執行"松山-馬祖"的客運業務。

There some other specially-painted airliners we can see in TSA. For example, Mandarin Airlines have an Enbraer ERJ-190 jet painted with Sun-Moon Lake graphics. And Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) have one MD-82 painted with Penghu's "Double-Heart of Stacked Stones".

其他航空公司也有特別彩繪的飛機可以在松山機場看到。例如華信航空一架ERJ-190塗裝以日月潭為主題,遠東航空也有一架MD-82,機身彩繪是澎湖七美的"雙心石滬"。

For aviation-crazy photographers, sometimes we have to make difficult choices. Most planes are fast-moving objectives, so high-speed shutter is the best way to take clear photos. But things don't always go as we think and plan.

If you want to take pictures of propeller planes or helicopters, high-speed shutter will make the images "frozen" like that engines are not running. But, you know, low-speed shutter is not good for taking clear pictures unless you can keep your cameras very, very steady when taking aim at planes.

航空攝影有時必須面對困難的抉擇。絕大多數飛機都是快速移動的物體,因此高速快門(例如1/800或更快)是拍下清晰影像的最佳途徑。但想像與計畫往往感不上變化。如果要拍的是螺旋槳飛機或直升機,高速快門會讓影像"凍結",猶如螺旋槳引擎室停止狀態。但低速快門不利於拍攝清晰影像,除非對焦時手持相機可以非常非常穩定。

After TransAsia ceased its operation in 2015, UNI Air was once the only airline with ATR-72 in fleets. Then Mardarin Airline was "ordered" by Civil Aviation Agency to operate most demostic routes TransAsia left behind. Because some airfields of remote islands, for example Matsu, are too small to let jets take off and land, and ATR-72 is better than jets for short-range routes, Mandarin Airline, with help from parent company China Airline, bought and lease several ATR-72s.

在復興航空於2015年歇業後,立榮航空一度是國內唯一操作ATR-72客機的公司。而華信航空受命於民航局指示,承接了復興航空留下的國內航線。由於部分離外島--例如馬祖--機場太小,噴射機無法起降,而ATR-72在短程航線上運作優於噴射客機。華信航空於是在母公司中華航空協助下,以採購和租賃並行,於2017年正式引進ATR-72。

As mentioned in my previous articles, TSA is a military-civil dual purpose airport, we can see military planes taking-off and landing everyday here, including the presidential plane "Air Force One" which is operated by Airforce Songshan Base HQ.

In some special cases like Double-Tenth in 2017, there was air parade with military choppers flying by the presidential building. Army's Airborne troops and their gunships have been staying in TSA for some days.

筆者之前的文章有提過,松山機場是軍民兩用,每天都可以在此看到軍機起降,包括暱稱為"空軍一號",隸屬空軍松山基地指揮部的總統專機。而在一些特別的日子,像是2017年的雙十節,總統府有軍用直升機的空中分列式。因此陸軍航空部隊的武裝直升機,也在松山機場停留了幾天。

After one year spending my leisure time for aviation photography, I can say that right before the main landing gears leave land during taking-off, and that right after the main landing gears touch down during landing, are my favorite timing for taking planes' photos.

Of course, seconds before touch-down and after taking-off, when planes are at very low altitude, is good enough. This means that planes are very close to the ground or where we stand. The best angle, in my view, will be at cockpit's 1~2 o'clock and 10~11 o'clock.

筆者踏入航空攝影領域1年以來,最喜歡的角度和時機就是飛機起降時,主輪離陸前/主輪著陸後的瞬間。當然,著陸前幾秒鐘和升空後幾秒鐘,也就是飛機高度很低,離地面甚至攝影者很接近時,也是不錯的拍照時機。至於最佳角度,筆者認為駕駛艙的左前方和右前方,大約是1到2點鐘方向和10到11點鐘方向。

You might find that in most pictures above, the angles I took photos are very similar. This is because I want to avoid backlight to have clear images. TSA's runway is roughly west-east direction so the sun light will come from southeastern side before noon and southwestern side afternoon. That means the better positions to take planes' photos before their landing will be the southern part of "Lane of planes" and the balcony on BinJiang Market's 5th floor.

But when TSA is operating with runway 28, things will change. Backlight might be inevitable but for taking planes' photos when they touch down, the best place is the 2nd -floor balcony of "Air Force One Cafe/Restaurant".

各位也許已經發現,很多照片拍攝的角度都非常相似,原因是為了避免背光。松山機場的跑道大致上呈現東西向,上午的陽光來自機場東南方,下午以後則來自西南方。換言之,若要拍攝飛機降落前的畫面,較佳地點是飛機巷的南端,或是濱江市場5樓的陽台。

但若松山機場以28跑道運作,情況就不同了。背光也許無法避免,但拍攝飛機降落前或著陸瞬間的照片,最佳地點就是空軍一號咖啡廳/餐廳的2樓陽台。

In addition to planes themselves, composition of your photos is another interesting thing. Landmarks around TSA are The Grand Hotel and Taipei 101 Boulding. There are many aviation photos, including mine, of course, on internet featuring a plane, taxiing or in flight, with one of these landmarks in background.

除了拍飛機本身,照片的構圖也是另一個有趣的話題。松山機場周邊著名的地標有圓山大飯店和台北101。網路上有許許多多照片(包括筆者本人拍攝的),除了滑行中或飛行中的飛機,背景也包括這兩大地標的其中之一。

Of course, there might be different compositon. One day I chose to take planes' photos in the middle section of 'Lane of planes" which is right under the landing route of TSA. An ATR-72 was flying over my head and I took this picture.

當然也有不同的構圖方式。某日我在飛機巷中段拍照,就在松山機場降落航道正下方。1架ATR-72飛越我的上方,我也順勢拍下這張照片。

When we are talking about composition of aviation photography, planning in advance is needed. For example, someone wants to take a plane's photo during its taking-off and with Taipei 101 in background.

Here is the way I do this.

First, I aim my camera toward Taipei 101 with it in the bottom middle. When the plane, in this case a Hello Kitty painted EVA Air A330, is approaching from the right side (runway 10) and getting in to the frame, I use continuous shooting to take 12 pictures.

拍飛機時若要講究構圖,需要有事先的計畫。例如要拍攝起飛中的飛機,並以台北101為背景。我的做法是這樣的。

首先將鏡頭對準台北101,讓它位於畫面的底部中央。當飛機(此處為長榮航空的凱蒂貓彩繪A330班機)從右邊接近並進入畫面框,就用連拍功能拍攝如下的連續鏡頭。

Some people like to take planes' photos when they are taxiing on the ground. Me too. For doing this, Lane of planes and Air Force One's balcony are recommended places. Lane of planes is as high as TSA's runway and Air force One's balcony is one floor higher. Both have wide and clear view of TSA. That's why they are far better than other places

有的攝影者喜歡拍攝飛機於地面滑行的照片,筆者也不例外。並高度推薦飛機巷和空軍一號的陽台。前者和松山機場跑道高度約略相當,後者比跑道高一層樓,兩者都有寬廣、清晰且幾乎無障礙的視野,因此遠優於其他地點。

There is a plane we almost can't see in other civil airports. That's the presidential plane, nicknamed "Air Force One". For some political reasons, this plane is not allowed to land in countries without diplomatic relationship with Taiwan, or ROC, or even not allowed to fly through their air space. So this plane can only have domestic flight to various airforce bases.

松山機場有一架其他民航機場幾乎看不到的飛機,就是暱稱"空軍一號"的總統專機。基於某些政治因素,該機無法在無邦交國家降落,甚至不能飛越無邦交國的空域。因此該機大多只能在國內的軍用機場起降。

Bird strike is a serious threat to aviation security, but there are always birds around airports, TSA is no exception. So from time to time, Civil Aviation Agency, TSA management and airforce Songshan Base HQ have officers and soldiers driving their cars to get these birds away.

鳥擊是飛安一大威脅,但各機場總會有鳥群飛來飛去,松山機場也不例外。因此偶爾也會看到民航局、松山機場管理單位和空軍松指部的幹部官兵,駕車在跑道四周驅趕鳥群。

Besides various planes, sunset is very beautiful in TSA. It has to be clear sky, of course, or just a few cloud there. And the view of planes flying in sunset is also amazing.

除了飛機,松山機場的夕陽景緻也非常美。當然,必須是晴天,或者最多有少許雲層。
